The following is a list of current committees that are part of the Darby Creek PTO. Committee membership is open to not only current parents, but alumni, grandparents, and other community members. We invite and encourage new and returning parents to become involved in at least one committee during the 2015-2016 school year. Your involvement, however large or small, will impact the students of Darby Creek in a positive way. Join us at the table.

2015-2016 Chairperson - Seema Sharma The chairperson is responsible for scheduling and organizing volunteers throughout the year and for the Art Show in May along with Mrs. Buscemi, Art Teacher. Non-chairperson volunteer assistance is needed with the following project areas: mounting art work; setting up displays in hallways and showcases; labeling art work; cutting plaster; prepping paper mache and clay for projects; making photo copies; helping 1st and 2nd graders during classroom time; providing support during Tye-Dye week; and prep-work for the art show in May. |

BOX TOPS

This committee helps organize and promote the collection of Box Tops throughout the year. Each box top collected is worth $.10 to our school, up to $20,000! Committee members help redeem awards. Every box top makes a difference!

DIRECTORY
2015-2016 Chairperson - Sam Brill
The Directory Committee helps coordinate the collection of contact information and publication of the yearly student/parent directory. In 2015-2016, the directory will not be printed in mass quantities, but will be available as an online PDF download accessible only to Darby Creek Parents. A limited number of copies will be printed for those who make a specific request.

Come join us for a Family Fun Night at Darby Creek! (Dates TBA.) Volunteer activities vary depending on the event, but may include help with set-up, organizing, collecting money, staffing a game station, or selling treats for the event.

HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE

The Hospitality Committee provides the Back-to-School lunch for the teachers during their meeting with the principal in August. The committee also provides dinner for the teachers during each Conference Night in November and February. The committee supplies light snacks and drinks for any inter-school PTO meeting or Board of Education meeting if they are held at school during the year. In May, the committee conducts the “Teacher Appreciation Week” events.

One of Darby Creek’s great fundraisers is the monthly Market Day Grocery order. The Co-Chairs of Market Day distribute Market Day forms to the teachers’ mailboxes, enter orders in the computer, coordinate volunteers to work the sale and make reminder phone calls each month. Co-Chairs compile and forward the phone lists to the volunteers, work with Market Day Rep. and Darby Creek parent, Lindsay Goss, to distribute reminder notices to teachers who place an order, collect payment from teachers, and work at Market Day pick up.

The Nominating Committee is responsible for the PTO elections. Volunteers design and distribute nomination forms for open positions, collect data and create a ballot for a final vote in May. The committee contacts each nominee and invites him/her to the April and May PTO meetings. The committee totals the ballots at the May PTO meeting and announces the winners.

2015-2016 Chairperson - Stacy Rymer There is at least one room parent per classroom. Room Parent responsibilities include compiling a list of parent volunteers and organizing their efforts to provide snacks for treat days as well as games and activities for party days. There are 4 events throughout the year: 2 in-classroom party days (Winter Party in Dec. and an end of the school year party.); 2 treat days (October & February). Volunteers must be able to attend the informational meeting in September and the 2 party days (winter holiday & end of year). |

The school sign is located on the service drive at the south end. The sign needs to be updated frequently to reflect any upcoming events with dates and times. This activity can be shared among several people alternating weeks or months.

2015-2016 Chairperson - Jennifer Hemstreet The school supply sale begins in the spring for the upcoming school year. Volunteers assist the Chair with distributing order forms, entering information, and organizing volunteers for the August delivery and distribution to classrooms. |

2015-2016 Chairperson - Amy Hile This committee is responsible for scheduling, advertising, and collecting the money from one DCE spirit night per month at local restaurants and eateries. Spirit Nights provide an opportunity for Darby Creek Parents to dine in or take-out lunch and/or dinner and a percentage of their purchase on that day benefits our school. Typically between 10% and 20%. |

The Spirit Wear Committee is responsible for designing an order form, collecting orders and distributing those orders when shipment arrives. The sale of Spirit Wear (t-shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies with the Darby Creek logo) raises funds for the PTO.

SOCIAL MEDIA | TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE

The Social Media and Technology Committee helps coordinate images and videos taken at events, provides ideas for posting on social media, and helps publicize PTO events through different technology. This committee is primarily responsible for the upkeep of the PTO website and PTO social media sites.

Darby Creek’s Annual Walk-a-Thon is the biggest fundraiser of the year. Volunteers are needed at every stage of planning and executing for jobs both big and small. This year's WaT is scheduled for October 14, 2015. Almost 100 Parent volunteers are needed that day to help with distributing t-shirts, marking lap stickers, keeping the water station filled for our student walkers, etc. Volunteers can work a half day, a whole day or a 2-hour shift.

The Wellness Committee is comprised of volunteers who are interested in health, nutrition and physical activities. Currently, the wellness committee supports the monthly healthy fruit and vegetable food sampling program during lunch. The school district receives funding through a grant for the sampling program. Sampling begins in October and runs through April on the third Thursday of the month during lunchtime.
